By this time I frequently painted on extremely thin aluminium panels coated with paper on both sides, the kind used for officially gauged plans which may not be altered. They had the advantage that they did not "warp" like plywood panels, nor did they form pockets like canvas, "crumble" like wood-particle panels, or expand or shrink, according to the weather, like paper.
