Hundertwasser's comment on the work

Water is blue. Soil is brown. That is a beautiful contrast for painting. It is like man and woman, like light and shadow, which cannot really be separated, but depend on one another. Although they have been separated, the water longs for the land and the land for the water. (translated from the brochure: Hundertwasser Genesis Edition, Hanover, 1995)
