Hundertwasser started this watercolour at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna on the occasion of the film "Rudolf von Alt - Mit meinen Augen gesehen" (Seen Through My Eyes) by Walter Koschatzky. In the film, he comments on watercolour painting and talks about Rudolf von Alt, one of the most important Austrian watercolour painters of the 19th century, whom he much admired.
